The 2008 Winner: 'Entre Deux'

Entre Deux, Maastricht
The dilapidated Entre Deux retail area was redeveloped into an accessible shopping street of high urban and architectural quality and now forms a perfect link between Maastricht’s two most important squares: the Markt and the Vrijthof.

The ingenious solution for the local difference in height provided not only extra space for the retail trade, but also gave the whole development a more exciting design and image. The careful integration of the 13th century Dominican Church, which is now a bookshop, contributes to the atmosphere, and Maastricht has now genuinely acquired an additional city centre area.
Decision of the jury

Source: Jury report, 2008 FGH Real Estate Award
Entre Deux made a great impression on the FGH Real Estate Award jury not just because of the feeling for detail it conveys, but also due to it being an extremely successful attempt to redevelop a loss-making project into a prosperous, atmospheric shopping area. The jury was above all impressed by the respect shown by the developer for the historic surroundings in which he had to operate. The project has blended seamlessly with Maastricht city centre and, with its special ambience and high quality, truly adds something to the area. Apart from winning the 2008 FGH Real Estate Award, Entre Deux is just as much a source of inspiration for all real estate professionals who regard city centre redevelopment as their area of expertise.
